    Default Good OBD-II Data Recorder?

    I'm just looking for a data recorder that uses the OBD2 port. Do you know of such a product? thanks.

    Most of the generic OBD2 scan tools can also be used for data logging. The ElmScan 5, OBDpro, and All-In-One can all do this when used with PCMSCAN software and the Auterra Dyno-Scan has datalogging software included.

    Is this along the lines of what you're looking for or did you want a completely self contained box recorder that doesnt' need the laptop or PDA connect?

    Sorta. I just don't see having a laptop flying around in the car as a good
    thing. I know at the drag strip or the auto-x they won't let you have
    anything not bolted down in the car, so I was hoping something like the
    g-tech where it's small, and self contained. After all, it's just reading
    off the obd port, so there would be no need to have a whole nother set of
    sensors and cables run thru the car like on a racepak, etc.

    Sprry, I didn't realize what you were trying to do and wasn't sure what you were asking. The OpenTune that Innovate Motorsports is releasing in June will be exactly what you're looking for;

    And Drew Tech has one called the DashDAQ that will be out about the same time, it's got more functionality than the OpenTune, possibly more than you need, but it will connect to the OBD port and datalog (among lots of other
    things): http://tunertools.com/proddetail.asp?prod=DT-DashDAQ

    Both of these should have been out by Mid-March which is why we have them up on the website, but some contractural issues between a couple of companies delayed things. Both are on track now and I think June is a pretty solid date.

    There is also another product available, which we do not have in our line up but may suit your purposes. The CarChip by Davis Instruments is really intended for parents to use for monitoring their kids driving habits, but it's a datalogger of sorts. I'm not sure of the sample rate however, but you might want to check this out:

    I do hope I've been helpful and please let me know if you have any questions.
