    Diagnostics with the Mongoose MFC for Toyota, Honda, Nissan, VW
    The mongoose ISO is a USB pass-thru device that utilizes the SAE J2534-1 API. What this means is that the Mongoose ISO uses a standard communications interface to the vehicle, allowing it to work with 3rd party diagnostic applications. Different diagnostics and data logging applications are currently supported by the Mongoose, with more being added all of the time.
    We stock and sell 3rd party diagnostics and data logging application called PCMScan or ScanXL separately for $94.95. With PCMScan or ScanXLyou can retrieve and clear DTC codes, view and record PID data, and perform other general diagnostics. PCMScan or ScanXLrunning on Mongoose ISO supports all ISO141 import vehicles and all CAN vehicles from GM, Ford, BMW, Honda, Toyota, Chrysler, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Volvo, Volkswagen, and many other automaker brands. By 2008 all vehicles on the road will be CAN based and supported by the Mongoose ISO/CAN adapter

    Cheers,
    Lloyd

    My question was if it is a good idea for my small import repair shop to invest in a mongoose interface cable and purchase scan software for my laptop, as opposed to using my present Snap on Modis , which is expensive to update and hard to navigate. Also, the display is hard to see.

    I purchased Vag-Com software from Ross Tech for Volkswagen diagnostics and I love it. Now I want to use my laptop for other cars. Is the software available with the mongoose interface as powerful and easy to use? Is it available for Imports? How much does the new Toyota Techstream lite software cost? Do I need to purchase a separate program for each model?

    This is a tough call and the answer depends on which vehicles you do the most work on, whether you also get into updating the calibration files in body control modules, etc...

    For Toyota, the Mongoose MFC can be used with Toyota Techstream software (available by subscription from Toyota) and it becomes a full blown dealer level Techstream tool 100% equivalent to the $7000 Toyota Techstream system.
    For nearly all Asian / European cars, the Mongoose MFC can be used with the OEM software for J2534 reflashing to update control modules, key reprogramming & basic maintenance updates, but the scan tool software from the manufacturers (for anything other than Toyota) is very limited on the diagnostic side and varies from one make to the next. Typically, for scan tool software for use with the Mongoose, our customers use ScanXL software, but it covers only OBD-II global data parameters + enhanced packages available for Ford, GM & Mazda (i.e. no other imports are covered for enhanced data).

    I do expect additional manufacturers to follow Toyota's lead by releasing their dealer level diagnostic software for use with the Mongoose, but that has not happened yet and I can't promise when or if that will happen. So while it's not an obvious replacement for the Modis tool, the ability to reflash the OEM updates is a nice feature and if you work on a lot of Toyota models, it's hands down the best deal on the market.

    Cheers,
    Lloyd

    We're a distributor for Drew Technologies, Drew Technologies is the manufacturer of the Mongoose and they're located in Ann Arbor Michigan, not in China. The warranty is provided by Drew Technologies and while we typically assist with warranty issues, it is Drew Tech who ultimately stands behind the warranty. Their warranty information is quoted as follows:
    *****************

    LIMITED WARRANTY
    Drew Technologies, Inc. guarantees that every ScanDAQ, CarDAQ-Plus, CarDAQ2534, CarDAQ-DV Mongoose, & AVIT device as well as included accessories are free from physical defects in material and workmanship under normal use for one year from the date of purchase. If the product proves defective during this warranty period, email Drew Technologies Customer Support (support@drewtech.com) in order to obtain a Return Authorization number. When returning a product, mark the Return Authorization number clearly on the outside of the package and include your original proof of purchase.
    *****************

    Further details on the warranty can be viewed online here at the Drew Technologies website

    The reason we've spent so much attention on the functionality of the Mongoose with Toyota is due to the new release of Toyota's Techstream software which performs, not only programming but full dealer level diagnostics. With the Techstream software & a Mongoose MFC
    You get access to:

    * Complete factory-level diagnostics software
    * ECU reprogramming calibrations
    * Repair data
    * Wiring diagrams
    * TSBs
    * Identifix Direct-hit service

    The original use of the Mongoose MFC is designed for OEM reflashing of the PCM modules under the SAE J2534 standard and this functionality works on most Asian & European cars (not only Toyota).

    Shipping to Turkmenistan is normally by USPS Express Mail (EMS) and would normally arrive in about 5-8 days from the United States. Payment by Western Union is fine although we normally use Paypal or credit cards.
    Cheers,
    Lloyd
