I appreciate such great advice. Thank you. Your advice prompted me to check my owners manual and it showed me that the SES light indicates the emissions system needs attention which I confirmed with Ford service today.
So now I would just like to know what is the difference between the Scan XL and Ford Enhanced Ad On from the PCMSCAN 2.x & ElmScan 5 USB Combination - OBD2 ScanTool. Is it just Chinese versus U.S made or more software?
    Thank you for helping me.

    Hi,
The software PCMSCAN & ScanXL are very, very similar, in fact ScanXL is built on the same code base as PCMSCAN by the same programmer. Both are OBD-II applications and in it's base form (without add-ons) ScanXL & PCMSCAN will both provide access to all of the generic/global OBD-II sensor data, reset the check engine light, display the trouble code which caused the check engine light to be on and allow you to record (data log) the available sensor data to the hard drive of your laptop or PC.

Some of the differences are in the way expansion of the OBD-II base software works.
    * PCMSCAN allows you to attach an additional external sensor such as an air/fuel ratio meter via an additional usb port where data from both channels (OBD-II + Air/Fuel Ratio) are merged into one data set and logged together.
    * PCMSCAN does not provide the ability to add the enhanced data packages for Ford, GM or Mazda. For this option, you must use one of the two available ScanXL applications instead of PCMSCAN
    * ScanXL Standard will allow you to add the Ford, GM or Mazda enhanced data packages, but will not allow the external sensor 2nd channel for the air/fuel meter.
    * ScanXL Professional includes all the features of ScanXL Standard + the ability to import those air/fuel logs on the second channel the same way as PCMSCAN.

All three versions support the following scan tool hardware:
    - ElmScan 5
    - ElmScan 5 Compact
    - OBDLink
    - Mongoose*
    - CarDAQ*
    - Tactrix Openport 2.0*

    * for the Mongoose, CarDAQ, & Tactrix use the J2534 device setting in the software. For the others above, this setting is set to "Elm"

All three software applications provide the same multiple methods of display, gauge design application, data logging, O2 sensor tests, readiness monitor status, etc..

    I hope this is helpful.

    Cheers,
    Lloyd
