A 4 port boost control solenoid allows you to manipulate pressure to both sides of the wastegate. This means you can run a boost pressure much higher than the rated wastegate spring - advantages are higher boost pressures, quicker spool up a higher range of control.
4 port setups can be more sensitive to Duty Cycle changes (so resolution may suffer on smaller boost levels) They are also more sensitive to plumbing and manifold design and wastegate sizing, placement and tuning.
